A Pembrokeshire pupil’s love of sport has won her a brand new bike.
Cara Jeffrey of Tasker Milward School in Haverfordwest was presented with a mountain bike this week as a reward for her sporting enthusiasm.
Sports galore for Cara – and real reward
The year 7 student from Haverfordwest has attended almost 150 5x60 school sports clubs during the school year, which included badminton, dodgeball, football and tennis sessions.
Cara also attended county-wide girls’ cricket and football festivals and recently conquered her fear of heights by scaling the rock climbing wall at Haverfordwest Leisure Centre.
She was presented with her bike – donated by Mike’s Bikes of Prendergast - at a special ceremony at the school on Wednesday (July 16
th).
Cara is the second pupil to win a bike for her sporting efforts. Last year James Thomas from Hook also won a mountain bike.
New skateboard for Harry
Meanwhile Year 7 student Harry Jones, who attended 110 sessions, was this year’s runner-up.
The keen football player, who also takes part in dodgeball, tennis and badminton 5x60 sessions, was presented with a skateboard donated by the Pines Surf and Skate shop in Haverfordwest.
“We’re one of the few schools in Pembrokeshire to offer these incentives,” said Rominy Colville, School Sport Co-ordinator. “With so much concern these days about fitness and obesity we want to encourage as many pupils as possible to get active – and by rewarding effort we give them that bit extra incentive to keep fit.”
Points make prizes
Under the school’s 5x60 incentive scheme, pupils earn a point each time they attend an after-school, break time or lunch time 5x60 club or festival. Activities on offer include golf, street dance, volleyball, tennis, hill walking, boccia and cycling.
Students with the most points win prizes at the end of each term with an overall winner at the end of the year.
Organised by Sport Pembrokeshire, the 5x60 project aims to encourage pupils to take part in extracurricular activities, while getting fit at the same time.
